Aviation Minister visits Kumasi and Sunyani Airports

WORKING VISIT BY THE MINISTER FOR AVIATION, HON. JOSEPH KOFI ADDA (MP) TO THE KUMASI AND SUNYANI AIRPORTS.
The Minister for Aviation, Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda (MP) together with the Deputy Minister for Aviation, Hon. Yaw Afful (MP) and the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mr Yaw Kwakwa, in the company of other officials, paid a working visit to the Kumasi and Sunyani Airports to inspect the progress of work done at both Airports.
The development of Kumasi Airport Phase II and III which is expected to be completed by April, 2021, has 73.16% of the work done for the second phase and 54.31% of work done for the third phase with a combined progress of 53.15%.
Hon. Kofi Adda said Government is committed to making the country an Aviation Hub within the Sub-Region and that the Kumasi International Airport forms an integral part of Government’s vision to expand the frontiers of the Aviation industry in the country. The Minister commended the Brazilian Construction Firm, Contracta for the quality of work done and was optimistic the project would be completed on schedule.
In Sunyani, the entourage inspected the first Phase of Sunyani Airport Rehabilitation Project comprising the extension of the current runway from 1,282m to 1,500m asphalt, facelift of a single hall that serves both the arrival and the departure halls (Terminal Building), including fitting work on lighting system and air-conditioning. The project which is about 65% complete, is expected to be completed in October, 2020.
The second Phase of the Sunyani Airport Project, involves raising the Central Tower from two storey to three storey, separating the departure hall from the arrival hall and providing drainage and proper sewage system. Also present at the inspection was the Bono Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson who expressed appreciation on the progress of work and the scope of works generally. Hon. Kofi Adda expressed the commitment of Government to source for the needed funding to kick-start the Phase two project.
The working visit was successful and same would be replicated to other regional airports and other proposed sites for aviation infrastructure projects.
